At OVH US, we are proud to provide our customers with a bare metal server, which we call a Dedicated Server. A Dedicated Server has numerous advantages over other offerings; such as a VPS (Virtual Private Server) or a public cloud environment. A Dedicated Server is a single-tenant environment, which ensures that you have 100% of the server's resources at your disposal all the time. In this article, we will cover how to order a Dedicated Server via the OVH US Manager.
Dedicated Server Families
OVH US offers five different Dedicated Server that we call families. The five families are: Infrastructure, HA (High-Availability), Storage, GPU, and Game.
Infrastructure - Our base model offering and a jack-of-all-trades. Common use cases would be to host websites, databases, an email server, et cetera.
High-Availability - A highly customizable offering with redundant power and networking. A common use case would be hosting critical infrastructure that needs to stay online.
Storage - Designed for storing large amounts of data (e.g., multimedia content).
GPU - Comes with a dedicated graphics card. It is ideal for users who require 3D-rendering, AI programming, and other intensive multi-thread processing.
Game - Directed at customers who intend to host a game. The servers come with I7 Intel processors and SSD or NVMe drives for performance. They also come with our Anti-DDoS Game profile to ensure the utmost protection from nefarious acts.
Ordering a Dedicated Server
To begin, log in to the OVH US Manager. Then, click the Order drop-down in the left-hand column of the page.
Next, select the Dedicated Servers option.
This will bring up the order funnel. From this page, select the Data center location in which you wish to have your server hosted. This will bring up the available servers at that location. Choose the option that best fits your need.
Note: In our example, we have chosen 'Vint Hill (US)" and "Infrastructure - INF1".
After you choose the server, click the Configure button at the bottom of the page. From the new screen, you will be able to increase the number of servers you wish to purchase. On the "Customization" page, you will be able to select between hard disks and solid state drives as well as choose bandwidth options.
The next part is the "Review" page. Simply review your purchase, and click the Pay button to continue.
The last part of the order is the Pay page. Choose a valid payment method and click the Validate and pay button to finalize the order. Shortly after you will receive an email notifying you that the server has been provisioned.
Congratulations on purchasing a Dedicated Server. For more information on interacting with a Dedicated Server via the OVH US Manager, please check out our Overview of a Dedicated Server article. Additionally, a Dedicated Server with a hypervisor (e.g., ESXi by VMware) install and Failover IPs attached can have VMs that are directly connected to the Internet.
