Adding a Host (OVHcloud Manager)
We will begin by adding a host. First, log into the OVHcloud Manager. Next, click Hosted Private Cloud at the top of the page. Then, click on the Hosted Private Cloud drop-down and select your "Private Cloud". Under your Private Cloud, select the "datacenterXXX" to which you would like to add a host. Now click on the Hosts tab and click the Order a host button. Select your desired option and confirm your order.
Once you have finished this step, you will have successfully added an additional host to your HPC environment. In the next section, we'll discuss how to add more storage to an HPC environment.
Adding a Datastore (OVHcloud Manager)
Once in the "Private Cloud" section, to add a data store, click on the Datastores tab and then click Order a datastore. From here, select your desired option and click the Confirm order button.
We can also add resources to our datacenter in our vSphere Web Client. Let's start by looking at how to add a host inside vSphere.
Adding a Host (vSphere)
Note: When a host is added to your HPC environment via vSphere, it will be billed hourly. To switch the billing from hourly to monthly go to your datacenter in the OVHcloud Manager, select the Hosts tab and click the ellipses (...) next to the host you would like to be billed monthly. Note that you will not be able to switch from monthly to hourly subscriptions.
To start, log in to your vSphere Web Client. On the left-hand sidebar, click the arrow next to your HPC name and then select the datacenter on which you wish to add a host. Click the Configure tab and then click Add host under the "OVHcloud" menu.
Choose the host you wish to add and then click Next. On the following confirmation page, confirm the details are correct and press Next again.
If you already have a host with the specifications that you desire, you can quickly order more of that host. To do so, on the Navigator panel, right-click the host you wish with the configurations you wish to add and select the OVHcloud option. From here, click More of this host.
This will bring up an order funnel. Confirm the host and it will be delivered.
Now that we understand how to add hosts in vSphere, let's take a look at removing one.
Removing a Host (vSphere)
Back on the "Host and Clusters" screen right-click the host in which you would like to remove. Highlight Maintenance Mode and select Enter Maintenance Mode.
Once the host is in maintenance mode, right-click it again and highlight OVHcloud and select Remove this host.
Once the task is completed, you will see a confirmation page. Confirm that this is indeed the host you wish to remove and click Next to remove it.
Adding a Datastore (vSphere)
Note: When a datastore is added to your HPC environment via vSphere it will be billed hourly. To switch the billing from hourly to monthly go to your datacenter in the OVHcloud Manager, select the Data Stores tab and click the ellipses (...) next to the datastore you would like to be billed monthly. Note that you will not be able to switch from monthly to hourly subscriptions.
To start, log in to your vSphere Web Client. On the left-hand sidebar, click the arrow next to your HPC name and then select the datacenter on which you wish to add a datastore. Click the Configure tab and then click Add storage under the "OVHcloud" menu.
Choose the datacenter you wish to add and then click Next. On the following confirmation page, confirm the details are correct and press Next again.
If you already have a datastore with the storage specifications that you desire, you can quickly order more of that datastore. To do so, select the storage icon on the left-hand sidebar, right-click the datastore you wish to add more of, highlight OVHcloud and select More of this storage.
This will bring up an order funnel. Confirm the datastore and it will be delivered. Next, let's cover removing a datastore.
Removing a Datastore (vSphere)
Warning: Do not select "Unmount Datastore..." when attempting to remove storage. The datastore will no longer be accessible in your HPC environment but will still appear in your OVHcloud Manager and will still be billed.
To remove a datastore, navigate back to the Datastores tab. Next, right-click the datastore you would like to remove and click Delete Datastore.
On the new pop-up, confirm that the datastore has no VMs attached to it and select the NEXT button.Your datastore will be removed in a few moments.
Conclusion
You should now have a basic understanding of how to add and remove additional resources to an HPC (Hosted Private Cloud) environment.
